E Komo Mai Apartments is a multi-family housing complex centrally located in Downtown Hilo. The project is comprised of two three-story walkup apartment buildings with a combined total of 45 units. There are 35 one-bedroom/one-bath units with approximately 494 sq. ft. living space. 10 two-bedroom/one-bath units have approximately 646 sq. ft. of living space. All units have vinyl tile floors and ample storage throughout. Kitchens are equipped with a refrigerator, gas range and garbage disposal. Bathrooms are equipped with a basin, water closet and tub/shower combination. Four of the units are ADA-accessible.
The property has on-site laundry, a resident manager's office and a pavilion for tenant functions.
Nine of the one-bedroom units are subsidized through the HUD Section 8 program. Thirty-six units are indirectly subsidized by HUD through the Section 236 program. The Section 236 program provides mortgage interest reduction payments to the owner from HUD, reducing overhead costs and therefore, lower rents than the surrounding market.
